In the early 70’s Bethel had as a theme being “in the heart of the city, for the hearts of the people”. Being a downtown church has caused The Bethel Church to become creative in her evangelistic efforts. Under the leadership of Elder James Robinson and Elder Sean “Demetrus” Senior, the evangelism ministry has taken up a monthly initiative called “a heart for the hood”, where on the last Saturday of the month, the evangelism team chooses a particular area of town to go out and fellowship and share the message of salvation, followed by an evening worship on that Saturday directed at saving souls.
We also have a weekly clothes closet where we seek to provide clothing for those in need. During the holiday season, we share in a cause entitled Merry ChristMUCH, where we challenge the church to bring in items from toys to appliances to clothes and we turn the gym into a department store where we give away gifts for those who are “less fortunate” on a material level. All in all, Bethel is still in the heart of the city for the hearts of the people.
